The students of Class 5 celebrated World Literacy Day. To broaden the knowledge of students about the importance and struggle famous personalities who took a stand against illiteracy, the students were shown a skit on the life of Savitribai Phule. This wave of making others literate was continued by Government even after independence through various schemes like Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Mid Day Meal, etc. These works of government were presented through the dances and songs. At the end of the programme, the struggle of people in other parts of the world, their agitation against illiteracy was shown through the voice of Malala Yousafzai. In today’s era the meaning of literacy is not limited to the ability to read and write, but it is the ability to interpret and evaluate the world around us which was shown through a video, mentioning different types of literacy that are useful for everyone in 21st Century. By the end of the programme the Principal, Mr. Anosh Manwar Sir guided the students and explained them how one can end most of the world’s problems with education. He also focused on the universal truth that education empowers every individual. But individual can’t bring change alone. It is the process which enables every individual to effectively participate in the activities of society and to make positive contribution to the progress of society.
